Cutco Knives are a staple in the kitchen for many people. They are known for their high quality and durability, which is why so many people choose them. If you want to know more about Cutco knives, read on!

Why Cutco Knives Are So Good?

Cutco knives are so good because they stay sharp for a very long time. The blades are made of high-carbon steel, and coated with Teflon. This makes the blade resistant to corrosion and rusting. In addition, the handles are ergonomic and contoured to provide maximum comfort during use, even when cutting for extended periods!

If that isn’t enough, then you’ll want to keep reading to find out why I love my Cutco knives and why I believe everyone should have them in their kitchen. So whether you’re thinking about buying a set or a knife at a time (like I did), you’re in the right place.

And if you think you don’t need the best kitchen knives on the market because you’re not a professional chef, well, then you don’t know what you’re missing out on!

About Cutco Knives

Before I tell you about the knives, I must tell you about the company as a whole. Cutco, aka Cooking Utensil Company, was founded in 1949 by Case Cutlery and Alcoa.

Today, the company employs over 800 employees and produces more than 100 kitchen cutlery products and flatware, gadgets, and utensils.

In fact, they are the largest manufacturers of kitchen cutlery in Canada and the US.

Why Cutco Knives Are So Good & Are They Worth It?

Cutco knives are not the cheapest, and most people will have a hard time spending hundreds on one knife. However, if you’re like me and spend a lot of time grilling or cooking in the kitchen, you can’t go wrong with investing in a good set of knives.

If you’re trying to justify buying a set or even one knife, then you’ll find some of the reasons I opted to buy (now 7) of my Cutco knives.

They Are A Staple In Any Kitchen

Kitchen knives are one of the most important tools you need on hand to prepare food. If you don’t have a good set, you’ll find that you can’t do much chopping or slicing without it being a mess.

In addition, a bad knife will be dull and make your prep time take twice as long, so you’re going to want to invest in a good set of knives that last a long time.

Ergonomic and Contoured Handles

The ergonomic handles on Cutco knives make it easy for you to hold onto the blade, which will reduce strain on your hand while you’re cooking.

They are also contoured so that you won’t feel any discomfort in between your fingers or palms. They are comfortable to use, whether you’re left or right-handed.

Longevity

It’s not unusual to hear a person say they’ve had their knives for years. They last so long because of the way they are produced.

The blades go through a three-step heating process consisting of tempering and deep freezing. The process creates a balance of flexibility and hardness of the blade.

All the handles are molded from a highly engineered thermo-resin that prevents cracking, chipping, and absorbing moisture. Yes, they are dishwasher safe, although I always handwash my knives after each use.

If you care for them properly, you won’t ever have to buy another knife again!

Colors

At the time of this writing, Cutco offers three different colored handles; pearl, black, and red. I personally like the way the black ones look, although to me they look like a mixture of brown and black. This is because they have a marble pattern which means they are not a completely solid color.

Cutting Edges

The company uses distinct unique cutting edges, the Double-D and the Micro Double-D Edge. So whether you’re using a straight or recessed edge, all Cutco knives will cut food easily, whether you’re moving the knife backward, forward, or straight down.

Reputation

A company that has been in existence for more than 30 years is a company that knows how to treat its customers and builds quality products.

Sure, you could choose a less expensive kitchen knife you buy at Walmart and pay $15 or less, but you’re not getting the Cutco commitment to excellence.

Quality and Durability

The blades are constructed with 440A high-carbon stainless steel, which helps hold the sharp edge while maintaining the aesthetics. In addition, the steel is resistant to corrosion and rust as long as you maintain the knives properly.

Lifetime Warranty

These knives are so expensive because they last a lifetime and have a lifetime warranty. When you buy a set of Cutco knives, you can expect to hand them down to your children or grandchildren.

These knives will stay in your family for several generations. I don’t know about you, but this alone is worth the price of admission!

If you visit their website, you can read testimonials from customers that have had their set of knives for several years. Some have even had their knives handed down from their parents.

Oh, and if you do happen to get some hand-me-down Cutco knives, the lifetime warranty is passed down to you!

Stay Sharp for Long Periods

One of the reasons people (myself) included love these knives is the sharpness of the blade. As long as you’re using the knives for the right job, cutting on the correct type of cutting board, the blades don’t dull as quickly as other knives on the market.

The longevity of the knife’s sharpness is possible because a skilled craftsperson trained eye that applies the beveled cantle on straight-edged knives, which is also known as honing before it leaves the manufacturing plant.

Free Lifetime Sharpening

Like any other knife, eventually, your Cutco knives will need to be sharpened. Yes, you can sharpen them yourself, but the company also offers a free lifetime sharpening service.

When you’re ready to use the service, contact the company, and they will send a representative to your home to sharpen the knives for you. Or you can mail the dulled knife to their company, and once a professional has sharpened it, they will mail it back to you.

Made in the USA

All of their knives are made in the United States, and they have been for 50 years now! At the time of this writing, the knives are produced in Olean, New York. However, like other companies, they do outsource some of their products to Mexico and China.

According to the company website, they currently outsource the production of their stainless flatware teaspoon, salad forks, soup spoons, and other accessories.

The popular Cutco handles are manufactured in the US, and only the steel heads are outsourced.

However, you can be sure that you’ll never find an imported knockoff with their name on it. This is because they want you to trust them, so they make sure all their knives are truly authentic.

Local Sales Representatives

You may be wondering why you would want to buy a Cutco knife from people you’ve never met. Well, you might not have the time or money to shop for hours on end in order to find the perfect knife for you- and that’s where Cutco can help!

Cutco trains their representatives, so they know everything about them. They’ll make sure you get the exact knives you need and answer all your questions. In addition, you can contact the company to see if there’s a representative in your area and schedule an in-home demonstration.

A rep will come to your home and show you how to use the knife and provide you all the information you need to decide on whether these are the right knives for you.

Downsides

Before you buy Cutco knives, it’s essential to understand some of the downsides. Like any product on the market, there will be some disadvantages.

Expensive

These knives are expensive; that’s why I have never purchased a whole set. An entire set will easily run you over $1000.00. But don’t let that stop you; instead of buying a whole set, get the knives you know you’ll use.

That’s what I’ve done.

In-Home Demonstrations

If you want to see how a Cutco knife works before making a decision to buy, you’ll need to schedule an in-home demo.

The downside is the salesperson may be pushy and try to get you to buy, even if you’re not ready. This is one of the reasons I hate browsing parking lots for a new car. I don’t want to be subjected to high-pressure presentations or fast-talking salespeople.

I found a demo at Cutco and the local fair before buying mine. So, before scheduling a demonstration, find out if there’s a demo in your area.

Conclusion

There are many websites online that talk about Cutco knives without actually owning them. I’ve done my best to research the information on Cutco knives while also sharing my personal opinions about them since I own seven of them, along with the Super Scissors.

I realize these knives are expensive, but they will save you money in the long run because you won’t have to buy another set of knives.

If you’re looking for a great set of knives and are tired of buying a new knife every year, then I recommend taking a closer look at the Cutco brand.

You can purchase them on the www.cutco.com website, Amazon (I’ve included a link above), Home & Garden Shows, and sometimes they will have demonstrations at malls, Cutco, and other retail shops. Some people have also found second-hand Cutco knives on eBay, Craigslist, and Facebook Marketplace.
